Your goal is to place three plants of the same kind next to each other. Then the three plants will be merged and upgraded to next one. Whenever you have reached the aubergine you won the round.

Press on an empty tile to place a plant. Match three identical plants in a row, either vertically, to merge them into the next plant type. Proceed merging plants to advance through the levels. Focus on creating the aubergine to win the round. Strategize to increase your merges and achieve the aubergine in as few moves as possible. Watch the board for opportunities to create multiple merges with a single move. Prevent filling the board without merges to keep space for strategic placements.
